Racing through September 2012

Maybe being two months behind on my blog and photos is just going to be my thing.

September was another busy month, but full of fun activities for both of us and the girls! Seeing the Spokane Symphony play at Pavillion Park on Labor Day has become a tradition for me and I look forward to it every summer! This year we spent it with the Nall family and Jenn and Matt Bailey.

We also went to Silverwood kid-free with them and enjoyed the water and theme parks! The six of us flew down the water slide together and floated on the lazy river. It was nice to relax and not worry about the little ones.

I can’t believe summer is over, but it became real when the kids started back to school! We walk the two blocks to and from the Elementary School every day, which Mojo really enjoys! Becca walks with us, but then takes the school bus to the Kindergarten Center. The first week was rough, with both of them not wanting me to leave. Thankfully it got easier! Becca quickly made friends and is happy as long as she doesn’t have to sit next to a boy (I wish that would last longer). One of Becca’s new best friends is Riley, who rides the bus with her and is also in Mrs. Grummon’s class. That’s right – Becca has the same teacher Lizzie had for Kindergarten and we all love her! Lizzie likes her teacher, Mrs. Boni, and loves 1st grade. Lucky for her she has a few of her friends from kindergarten in her class, including her “boyfriend” Duncan. Reese, from Stepping Stone, and Morgan, from her soccer team, are also in her class.

Speaking of soccer, yup it is that time of year for fall soccer and the return of the Supergirls! It is awesome that the team has remained together again and we are blessed to have the amazing Coach Tama Carter!

With Lizzie starting soccer, it was great timing for Becca to start gymnastics (really, life would be too easy if we only have music lessons and soccer practice to work around!). We love Spokane Gymnastics and her instructor! Becca can almost do the beginnings of a cartwheel, something Lizzie is still working on (although she can do a mean handstand).

Stephen and I were busy most week nights with play rehearsals, which were held in our living room. But we made time on the weekends to spend together. Before it started getting cold, we went kayaking on Lake Coeur d’Alene, something I have wanted to do for a few years. I was under the impression kayaking would be a lot of work, and although I might have been a little sore the next day, it honestly was more relaxing than anything else. Stephen and I had a lot of fun and look forward to kayaking again next summer!

Another event I am looking forward to participating again in next year is the Rotary in Motion (RIM) Ride. Lizzie and I rode the 5 Mile Family Fun Ride on the tandem bike, while Stephen rode the 50 mile scenic ride around Hauser and Newman lakes with the Hagmann family. Next year I plan to ride the 5 mile with Becca on the tandem and Lizzie on her own bike and Stephen hopes to ride the 100 mile ride. The ride is hosted by the Centennial Liberty Lake Rotary Club and benefits the local community.

You might have noticed a few changes with Lizzie throughout this month’s pictures. More specifically in her mouth, as she has been wiggling and losing teeth almost on a weekly basis! She has gotten so good about knowing when they are ready that she decided to stop wiggling one tooth, so that she could pull it out the next day at school and get one of their famous tooth necklaces. And boy, did she know she needed to stop, because it fell out in her mouth while saying goodbye to Becca before school even started!

That was around the same time I went on the field trip with Lizzie’s class to the Spokane County Fair. The class separated into groups of 3-4 students with a chaperone for a few hours to walk around and see as many animals as possible. Reese was in our group and we had a great time walking around together.

For someone so exhausted after walking around the fairgrounds, Lizzie sure enjoys running! Her and Matt ran the 5K Color Vibe at the Spokane Community College. They had buckets of brightly colored chalk for the racers to grab, throw and cover themselves in, but they also threw color at the runners throughout the run. She had a blast purposefully getting dirty, and I am glad she could do the run with her dad!

That same weekend, Stephen was also running, but he wasn’t getting dirty with brightly colored chalk. The Portland Warrior Dash was also 5K, but it had 12 obstacles ranging from scaling walls, swimming across ponds and crawling under barbed wire! This was Stephen’s first Warrior Dash and he ran it with his brother, Michael. Next year he plans to run it with both his brothers and his sister. That should be one dirty car ride home!

September is quickly becoming one of my favorite (yet busiest) months of the year. I had such a great time planning Becca’s 5th birthday party, which was a Princess Party. She invited four of her friends (Riley and Sammie from her kindergarten class, Danielle from Stepping Stone and her gymnastics class, and Savannah from Stepping Stone) and insisted Cooper and Lizzie come, too! Mommy was lucky enough to get to make the princess dresses, which she thought would be cheaper to make out of tulle than buy (could have been wrong, but I think it was still worth it in the end). Becca chose the colors for each dress and wanted to be a rainbow of all their colors. The girls got to keep their dresses as well as the crowns we made at the party. We also played “Poisoned Apple” or Hot Potato, ate cake and ice cream and opened a ton of presents.

Along with her party at home, Becca got to celebrate her birthday at school as the VIP. And to make it extra special, I took Lizzie out of school so she could be the first Mystery Reader of the year (something Lizzie asked about all summer) and we ate happy meals with Becca for a special birthday lunch. Becca was a very lucky princess!!
